How to identify 100% acrylic solid surface, Composite acrylic solid surface and calcium powder solid surface

How to Differentiate Between 100% Acrylic Solid Surface, Composite Acrylic Solid Surface, and Calcium Powder Solid Surface

Many customers find it challenging to distinguish between 100% acrylic solid surface, composite solid surface, and calcium powder solid surface due to their similar color appearances. This issue has been exacerbated by intense market competition, leading some customers to unknowingly substitute inferior materials for superior ones. In this article, we will guide you on how to identify these various materials effectively.

1. Surface Appearance

-100% Acrylic Solid Surface: This material appears relatively transparent, with clear, layered particles and a smooth surface color.

-Composite Acrylic Solid Surface: Composite acrylic solid surface exhibits general transparency, but the color is less uniform, and it has an average light transmission effect.

-Calcium Powder Solid Surface: The calcium powder solid surface appears dark and yellow in color, lacks light transmittance, and has a cloudy appearance.

2. Thermoforming

-100% Acrylic Solid Surface: When heated to approximately 180 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes, it can be freely bent and exhibits strong continuity.

-Composite Acrylic Solid Surface: Composite acrylic solid surface can only be bent at a small angle and is prone to breaking, with particles easily exposed.

-Calcium Powder Solid Surface: The calcium powder board cannot be bent when heated.

3. Cutting

-100% Acrylic Solid Surface: Cutting 100% acrylic solid surface results in snowflake-like debris.

-Composite Acrylic Solid Surface: Cutting composite acrylic solid surface generates more dust.

-Calcium Powder Solid Surface: Cutting calcium powder sheets is difficult and hard, similar to quartz stone and marble.

4. Combustion

-100% Acrylic Solid Surface: Burning 100% acrylic solid surface produces a strong, irritating odor due to the presence of MMA and PMMA resin.

-Composite Acrylic Solid Surface: Composite acrylic solid surface produces less odor and irritation when burned.

-Calcium Powder Solid Surface: The calcium powder board cannot be fully burned and releases powdery substances over time, which are remnants of the calcium powder.

5. Chemical Experiment

-Hydrochloric Acid Test: When placed in hydrochloric acid, 100% acrylic and composite acrylic solid surfaces do not produce gas, whereas the calcium powder board generates carbon dioxide gas.

6. Physical Testing

-Immersion and Staining: After immersing these materials in water for 72 hours or exposing them to substances like soy sauce, coffee, and vinegar, there are no significant changes in 100% acrylic and composite acrylic. However, the calcium powder board absorbs and changes under such conditions.

It’s important to note that 100% acrylic solid surface comes with a 10-year quality guarantee, including no fading, deformation, or cracking. Composite acrylic is guaranteed for 2 years, but problems such as yellowing and cracking can occur within the first year. Calcium powder solid surface is less durable, with issues like discoloration, penetration, and cracking potentially arising within just 2 months.

Kstone is committed to supplying high-quality 100% acrylic solid surface and composite solid surface sheets.
