Sink and hob openings need more than an accurate outline. Their corners, edges, supports and appliance interfaces affect the finished countertop. Have a qualified fabricator follow the material and appliance guidance.

Confirm the opening

Use the current manufacturer’s template or approved drawing for the exact sink or appliance. Check clearances, mounting method, edge profile, support and access for installation. Do not rely only on the outside dimensions of the fixture.

Plan the machining

Select tooling and a finished-edge process suitable for the material. Follow the required internal-corner details and remove defects that could concentrate stress. A rough jigsaw opening should not be assumed an acceptable finished cut-out.

Review joints and heat interfaces

Check nearby seams, the distance to edges and support of narrow sections. Hob installations require the appliance’s clearances and the material’s approved heat-protection details. Do not improvise an unsupported temperature limit.

Inspect and fit

Inspect the opening for chips, cracks and tool marks, then verify fit before final installation. Support the countertop during transport and assembly. For work on an installed top, review access, services and dust control before cutting.
